Comedian, TV host, Actress and a female that showers-sometimes.

About Simon Kaufman:

Simon Kaufman circuits the comedy scene from local clubs to national gigs. Simon’s improvisational style mirrors the accidental genius of that one kid we all knew back in the 5th grade who suffered from severe Attention Deficit Disorder/Hyper Activity and made us all end up in detention for laughing uncontrollably during classroom lectures. Simon’s own AD/HD impels him to engage in random audience conversations and hilariously sporadic freestyle raps. Yes He raps!

Melissa Shoshahi does stand up at The Centennial Theatre in Vancouver BC.

2011 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2011 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Syndey Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 17,000 times in 2011. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 6 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

About Jerry Percio:

Jerry Percio, a  versatile comedian, easily moves
his stage show from stand-up monology to musical
parodies without missing a beat. Jerry was the first
published white rap artist in the U.S. With a
voracious appetite for information, Jerry is the first
one to say that he will never run out of material for
his act. For all he needs to do is read the paper a
watch the news and the material just falls into place
from the crazy things people do every day. Jerry just doesn’t do impressions of some of his favorite actors and cartoon  characters, he does  ”recreations”.

Native of Cleveland, Ohio, Uncle Jer is one of the top parody, novelty, singer and songwriters in the country. His creations have been played on Dr. Demento’s syndicated radio program and Rick Dees’ Weekly Top 40.

Impressions and harp are among many of his talents. Jerry has produced 8 CD’s of live performances and music. He holds a BS degree in Accounting and a Masters degree in Sociology, which comes in handy in this trade since it’s the study of group behavior.

About Ed Hill:

Originally from Taiwan, Ed is an emerging young comic who moved to Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada 18 years ago, thinking he was on vacation at his father’s discretion.

Featured Comedians:
December 23: Leah Mansfield & Daniel Isherwood.

Leah Mansfield is a hard working comedian living in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  She just returned from the San Luis Obispo Comedy Festival, where she was one of six comedians voted into the “Best of the Fest” show.  She was also accepted into the World Series of Comedy last year.  Her jokes have been featured on Rooftopcomedy.com and Jokes.com.  In 2010, she traveled over 46,000 miles to bring laughs to people locked away in small farm towns.  In this time she has opened and featured for national headliners such as Tig Notaro, Issac Witty and Troy Baxley.  She’s a regular performer at the Joke Joint Comedy Club, where she once worked the door and ran the weekly open mic.  Expect big things from this little comedian.

http://leahmansfield.com/

Daniel Isherwood began performing stand up comedy in 2008 when a chance reunion with an old high school friend allowed him to realize his secret fantasy of performing on stage. Since first taking the stage his style and manner have evolved to match his changing life, always with a mind to find a bit, a quip, a line that’s funnier than the last one he wrote. An avid experimenter Daniel strives to provide comedy with depth and meaning that explores his mundane physical life as well as his rich internal world. In the course of his career thus far he’s worked as a feature for such headliners as Duane Goud and Nate Jackson. He’s also very involved in local open mics around Olympia and the western Washington area.

This week at Odd Duck Studio: November 25-28, 2011

This weekend marks the second weekend of our main stage show, The Man In The Newspaper Hat.

Friday & Saturday at 8pm. Then Thursday-Saturday Through December 17 starting next weekend.

$15. $10 for Students, Seniors, Military, Veterans, TPS Members, and Union Members. FREE for SAG, AEA and AFTRA Members. (Must bring Member cards or Student IDs). Advance Tickets available at 206-679-3271 and at http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/209503

Poets are not nice people. No artist is, really. They use the world and the people in it as fodder for their work. The Man in the Newspaper Hat, inspired by Elizabeth Bishop’s poem “Visits to St. Elizabeths”, is a fictional dramatization of the meetings between two polar opposite artistic temperaments, grandiose and infamous Ezra Pound and poets’-poet Elizabeth Bishop.

Elizabeth Bishop (Lisa Keeton), Poetry Consultant to the Library of Congress 1949-50, visits Ezra Pound (David S. Klein), father of modern American poetry, in the asylum of St. Elizabeths where he is remanded, declared unfit to stand trial for high treason for his pro-Fascist/anti-Semitic rants over Rome Radio during WWII.

Over the course of one year, Bishop challenges Pound artist to artist in an effort to unearth the poet under the rubble of his political delusions. They become poetic sparring partners, and while Bishop doesn’t succeed in reclaiming him for her poetic lineage, she senses that the ground underneath his longheld convictions is shifting. The result is deeply disquieting and eerily moving.

The production is dedicated to honoring the centennial of Elizabeth Bishop, who was born February 8, 1911. The play also has Northwest ties in that Ezra Pound was born in Hailey, Idaho, and Bishop lectured at the UW in 1966, mentoring many NW poets.

Hayley Heaton (Playwright) is a poet and playwright living in Salt Lake City, Utah. Heaton was educated at The University of Utah, Cambridge University, and The New School in New York City. Since 2004, she has published The French 75, and Nineteen Days of Blaise. Heaton’s work can also be found in several online and print journals.

Katrin Hilbe (Director) directs Opera, Operetta, Contemporary Music Theatre, Plays, in Europe and the US. Her latest projects were the multi-media event Fraktale Sommernacht with the International Lab for Opera and Media Werdenberg in Switzerland and Allen Davis III’ play Oasis with The Dramatic Question in NYC. She was the primary Assistant Director for Richard Wagner’s Der Ring des Nibelungen at the Bayreuth Festival in Germany. Katrin is Artistic Director of International Relations for The Midtown International Theatre Festival, member of the Dramatists Guild of America, LPTW, The WorkShop Theater Company, a mentee of Theatre Resources Unlimited and an alumni of Directors Lab West. ManyTracks (Producer)

ManyTracks has developed Hayley Heaton’s play The Man in the Newspaper Hat, and Katrin Hilbe’s Danton’s Death  Take 1, a new translation of Georg Büchner’s Dantons Tod. This production marks ManyTracks’ Seattle debut.

Theatre Lexicon (Producer)

On Sunday at 7pm is the November Mash-Up!

The thirteenth mash-up will again be at Odd Duck Studio, coordinated by Interrobang?!. We ask that improvisers participating have either advanced improv class experience (i.e., Wing-It’s 301-level classes, UP’s 400-level classes) or improv performance experience (feel free to shoot Dave Clapper a message if you’re unsure about this).

This time, at the beginning, we’ll be trying something new. In a further effort to build community, we’ll be having a group warm-up at the beginning led by Interrobang. In the future, we’d like to have other improv groups lead opening warm-ups. So we’re trying it this time to see how it goes, and if it goes well, we’ll get the word out to find an interested group to lead warm-ups at the next mash-up.

We’ll do our best to mix people up to perform with as many people from outside their usual groups as possible. Groups for the night will be announced as the night progresses, and each mash-up will go approximately 15 minutes.

Thus far, everyone who’s attended has been able to mash up at least twice.

You know there are a ton of amazing improvisers in town you’ve wanted to work with. Now’s your chance!

Suggested donation (which we’ll pass on directly to Odd Duck) is $5.00. Cheap! Fun! Awesome!
